- Snow + Sunshine = Fab Gardening Weather
After we’d all hoped the snow had gone away for good, we had another light dusting over night. However, the sun came out, melted the snow and frost, and made for lovely moist soil, which was good for digging!
This has all meant, I achieved today
Beds dug, and path down
Wigwams for peas/beans up (so [...]
- New Year, New Plans
Happy new year everyone!
I’ve been kept busy here by the chickens, who will be 11 weeks old this week. They came down with mycoplasma this week (symptoms were runny nose, sneezing and bubbly eyes), but they are on a course of antibiotics now and are on the mend. They have been living in my kitchen [...]
- Chickens!
Sorry for the lack of updates, its all been quiet here on the garden front.
But, big news! Yesterday I brought home 3 black silkie 8 week old chicks!
They are merryily wondering around their run at the moment, absolutely love mash, and I’ve already had them eating out of my hands. Not sure if they are [...]
- Mangosteen
Those of you reading this who know me well will know that I have an addiction to ebay. I manage to find all wonders of cr*p (as Nick calls it) on ebay, butwhen I had been searching for plants, I came across something that caught my eye.
All the way from Thailand, someone was offering a [...]
- Relaxed day
After a really tiring morning at work today, I’ve managed to have a really chilled afternoon. Went out to lunch with my dad, been to B&Q to buy a lightshade for Lucys bedroom, oh and I’ve been to see Annie Hall again to put the deposit down on the chicken house!
Its a big step on [...]
- Another Sunday Update
Another trip to Wyevale, another reduced plant. This time it was a cranberry plant which has taken up home next to the blueberry and horseradish. I also managed to escape with some more green manure seeds (half price), as well as some swede and romanesco cauliflower seeds.
Jona has come to life! There are a [...]
- Clucking mad
Lucy and I went yesterday to see Annie Hall in Siston, who comes highly recommended in the world of poultry around here. We spent a good hour and a half wondering round looking at the hens, quails and ducks she had roaming the field as well as the beautiful houses and arks she has on [...]
- Jona (and friends)
Just home from the school run and trip to buy some more compost, and have a confession to make.
As I was walking into the garden section of Homebase, I saw their reduced plants section. As you do, I wondered over to see if there were any bargains to be had, and managed to find a [...]
- Another day, another apple tree
Yes, I shall now be known as Rachel – Rehomer of weedy looking fruit trees.
I popped along to my local Wyevale, where I had a massive £6 of vouchers to use up, and came across their sale trees section. That is when I saw it, a sweet little Jonagold apple tree (m26 stock if you [...]
- Chickens
Something I’ve realised I’ve not mentioned. As well as the fruit and veg, the other aspect of the “Good Life” we’re aiming on doing is keeping some chickens. The plan is to start with 3 Goldline hens, no cockerels (to neighbours delight!), purely and simply to keep as pets and benefit from the excess of [...]
